Too many Gym Bro scientists out there—who have little or no fitness training or education—try to convince the masses that cardiovascular training is not necessary. Recent research strengthens the concept that physical activity not only benefits our bodies and hearts, but also improves our minds and moods. It is well known that older persons suffer depression at a high rate following cardiovascular disease events. However, in this study, researchers suggest that persons engaging in cardiorespiratory fitness during middle-age are less likely, in later life, to suffer depression in general and to avoid cardiovascular related death even if they are diagnosed with depression.
